Summer in Kirkby Stephen

Since moving 'up North' earlier this year, it's been a focus for me to integrate my Mini Me into society. Yep..I know, that sounds like an irritating, pushy mother kinda thing to say, but if you met my child, you would understand why.

Ella Walker

She is an angel to look at and when she does speak, she is (usually) well mannered and kind. But she can be painfully shy. So much so that she comes across as very rude and dismissive, when really shes just avoiding eye contact. She thinks if she doesn't look at you, you might just go away!

So as soon as we arrived I searched for local activities and found a few thing perfectly suitable for my little 3 year old.

So, activity number 1 - Platform 3. A perfectly sized soft play centre.

When I say perfectly sized, I mean that you can sit at any of the tables or comfy sofa areas and see your little one in any area. Its got loads to do, including a perfect toddlers area complete with ball pit, suitable for launching your Mini Me into!

Not only is it great for the kids, you can also eat there...and guess what...

not a deep fried chip in sight. I'm well aware that most families are OK with chips, but I cant stand that smell of greasy chips, and you will not come across it in this fantastic place. They offer toasties, sandwiches, soups and jacket potatoes, along with cracking

coffee and a beautiful range of handmade cakes.

Another added bonus is that adults don't have to pay to get in!

Its under £4.00 for a child to get in and everything food wise is quality and affordable, so it doesn't have to cost a fortune to spend a good 4 hours here!

Activity number 2 - Move by Meg

This is a fantastic dance class for ages 3 onward. Its on for half an hour, so just enough for the little ones to stay focused. They get to practice their moves in preparation for a future performance. Classes are about £5 each and you have to book for the 6 week term.

A new leader is now running classes, so take a look www.facebook.com/Stepintimeschoolofdance

Meg herself does a lot of brilliant work offering unique fitness classes around Cumbria including a class called 'Fit Night Out' amongst several others. I'm hoping she runs this class closer to Kirkby Stephen soon as it looks brilliant with a night club feeling, where you exercise to the music and have healthy fruit drinks....right up my street!

Activity number 3 - Kirkby Stephen Pebble Art

Now this is a fab activity that's fun and gets the kids out. You simply hunt for the pebbles that have been painted and hidden around Kirkby Stephen. If you want o, you can add to the collection, paint your own and then go hide them for others to find.

The Facebook group is fantastic, because your can add a photo of your Mini Me with their new found rocks, before re hiding them in a new place.

The Makers' Den recently held a workshop where we decorated our rocks in a Mandala style, before venturing out to hide them!

Activity 4 - Telling tales with Kirkby Stephen Community Arts.

Every Monday during term-time they run a story-time and craft session at Kirkby Stephen Sports and Social Club. Sessions start with a welcome song and story, and make a related craft before having some tasty snacks and plenty of playtime. All this for just £1.00! Bargain.

On the whole there are lots of activities to do, but we thought we could add just a few more to keep our little ones entertained, so take a peek at our next few crafty courses available. All kids clubs are just £3.80, no extra costs.
